Hang T. Nguyen

Hang Nguyen is a postdoctoral microbiologist, completed her PhD project at the School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences, The University of Adelaide, in 2022. Her PhD research was conducted in collaboration with an industry partner Neoculi Pty, to address urgent calls from the World Health Organisation for alternative strategies to prevent and treat infectious diseases and combat bacteria with multidrug-resistant traits. Her PhD work has been recognised with The University of Adelaide Doctoral Research Gold Medal (2022), a Dean’s Commendation for Doctoral Thesis Excellence (2022), a South Australia International Student Award (2022), and being honoured as a Mace Bearer (2023). Hang has extensive expertise in antimicrobial susceptibility testing, synergy testing via checkerboard assay, biofilm testing, electron microscopy (e.g., SEM, TEM), mammalian cell cytotoxicity assessments of new antibiotics, bioluminescent mouse models of (wound, sepsis and lung) infection, and efficacy testing of new antimicrobials, as well as molecular and cellular biology techniques. Hang is now a CEA-StAR research fellow, continuing her collaboration with Neoculi, providing key support to projects within the Animal Health theme, as well as mentoring PhD students.
